It’s close to midnight, and something evil’s lurking from the dark… Forget walking home alone without any tricks or treats, instead make this year’s Halloween a Thriller by booking into our accommodations in Kelowna and checking out these fun and spooky events, some of which are better suited for your little pumpkins and some that are strictly for midnight monster mashers.

1. Ride the Rails on the Terror Train

Located just a short drive south along Highway 97 to the city of Summerland, the Kettle Valley Steam Railway is once again hosting a Halloween ride on the only preserved section of the historic railway, Oct. 26 and 27. Get your kids to don their costumes for the less spooky thrill ride for families at 5:30 p.m. and then return to our Kelowna hotel with a pool for a refreshing dip before bedtime. For those who don’t mind braving the dark, a more terrifying ride takes place at 7:30 p.m. both nights. Tickets for either departure can be booked in advance online.

2. Enter the Bat Cave to See Some Night Owls

Learn what some of our feathered friends get up to at night when the Okanagan Heritage Museum brings in some friendly night fliers to its Halloween Nightwings event, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Oct. 30 from 3-7 p.m. Cost is a suggested $10 donation per family at the door.

3. Have Dinner with Dr. "Fronkensteen" and "Eye-Gore"

See what the mad scientist has been up to when the Kelowna Actors Studio brings Mel Brooks’ cult classic Young Frankenstein to life. The musical comedy stages Oct. 10-28. Make a night of it by staying at one of the best hotels in Kelowna and enjoy dinner theatre, or the show only, with dinner at 6 p.m. and curtain opening nightly Wednesday to Sunday at 7:30 p.m.  Matinee performances are at 1 p.m. Saturdays only.

4. Step into the Tent for Some Night Magic

Visit the 40-acre Triple H Haunted Halloween Park (Myra Canyon Adventure Park) to experience some magic under a heated big top tent. There will be monsters, action simulations, an adult scare zone, a family fun zone, games for all ages, and a 60-foot inflatable slide! Bring your family and warm up after at our hotel in Kelowna with pool, hot tub, and less scary but just as fun 40-ft. waterslide. Runs Oct. 25 to Nov. 3 weekdays from 5-10 p.m. and weekends from 5-11:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 (6+) and $50 for a family of four.

5. Carve Your Own Pumpkin and Sip on Libation

Carve a pumpkin without the mess at Buvez Wine Bar, Bistro and Art Gallery in downtown Kelowna. Buvez provides the pumpkin, cleans it out for you, while you enjoy roasted pumpkin seeds and a sip of your choice of wine, house vegan "Baileys," or vegan hot chocolate. Cost is $30/person and bookings are by reservation only through the entire month of October, or until pumpkins run out.

6. Dig Up Some Grave Fun at the Halloween Shindig

Just a short coffin ride downtown, Kelowna restaurant/night spot Munnin’s Post is the place to be Oct. 26 when local passive aggressive progressive dread band Lakeman hosts its 4th annual shindig. Special guests include Mountain Sound, Marci’s Beach, and Panoptic Contraband. Doors open at 7 p.m. Music starts at 8 p.m. Cover is $15.

7. Howl at the Moon With The Silverbacks

Located 7.6K southeast of the Comfort Suites Kelowna, the Halloween Howl II at the East Kelowna Community Hall features live music by The Silverbacks, Oct. 27. Tickets are $25 and funds are going to the Canadian Mental Health Association for suicide awareness and prevention.

8. Mix Your Treats with Some Wine or Cider

TheView Winery and Wards Cider host the third annual Spooktacular Halloween Candy, Wine & Cider Pairing Oct. 27-28 from noon to 5 p.m. For a tasting fee of $4, you get Halloween treats uniquely paired with delicious wines and ciders. Gifts will be given out to adults in costumes.
